Learn to Spin
Welcome to our introductory hand spinning lessons - we teach all of our introductory courses as one-on-one lessons so that we can adapt to what you already know (or what you think you might have known but have forgotten over time) and how you learn best.
When you sign up for Learn to Spin lessons, you purchase 3 hours' worth of learning time. This "learn to" class is slightly more freeform than our other introductory lessons, as there are many variables to learning to spin. If you are a complete beginner, you can expect to learn about different fibers, different commercially available fiber preparations, the "park and draft" method of learning to spin on a drop spindle, and plying. If you'd like to try both a spindle and a spinning wheel, we can work that in as well! Alternately, if you have tried a drop spindle and want to focus on learning to spin on a spinning wheel, that is also a possibility with this arrangement.
If you take to spinning like the proverbial duck to water and do not need all three hours of instruction, we will be happy to put the balance of your lesson fees onto your customer card as store credit!
(If you need financial assistance, please let us know in the comments section at check-out; we will let you know what we have available in the Community Crafting Fund. Your inquiry will remain confidential.)
Details:
- Once you place an order for a learn-to-spin series, we will call you on our next business day to schedule your first lesson. We will schedule the next lesson/s at the end of each lesson. We prefer to teach lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays after the shop closes, but we occasionally have other time slots available.
- If you have fiber allergies, please let us know in the notes / comments section at checkout so that we can track down appropriate fiber for you. We do not stock or use mohair or angora fiber in the shop or during classes/lessons.
- IMPORTANT: You will need to purchase a drop spindle or rent a wheel from the shop for this series of lessons, as well as spinning fiber to take home and practice with. These costs are not included in the lesson fees. We will discuss prices and options when we call schedule your first lesson.
- Should you decide to purchase a spinning wheel, your wheel rental fees may be applied towards that purchase.
