Shoot the Moon Wensleydale Worsted
If Wensleydale immediately makes you think of Wallace and Gromit, we'd like to encourage you to give this breed-specific yarn a try! Like the cheese, this breed originated in north Yorkshire - their wool is durable, way softer than you'd think, and it has natural SHINE. There's no silk, viscose, or nylon giving it that shine. It's just pure Wensleydale wool.
Longwool yarn has a reputation for being scratchy or rough (Icelandic and Leicester, looking at you), but this batch of Wensleydale yarn is potentialy next-to-skin soft. We have both of the natural ecru and dark brown colors available; there's slightly less yardage on the brown skein, so it's got a slightly lower price.
Dark brown: 180 yards / 70 grams, $27
Ecru: 215 yards / 80 grams, $28.50
And remember - even though your gut reaction may be, "this yarn is pricey for a single skein of worsted-weight," you're directly supporting a local farm family and their animals with your purchase. The sheep need to be fed, housed, shorn, and looked after by veterinarians; the farm also incurs significant costs for getting the fiber milled into yarn. Supporting local farms and local mills is one way that you can contribute to revitalizing and rebuilding the American wool industry.
