Garneting is a process in which textile scraps are rescued for reuse by shredding them down until the materials are returned to a fibrous enough state to be re-spun or blended/carded into another spinning fiber.

We'll be garneting both the expected (wool thrums and scraps) and the. unexpected - denim, silks, and fabric.

Skill level: Beginner to advanced

Materials fee: $25, payable to instructor on the day of class

Supplies for class: Students should bring a pair of 72 TPI handcards and/or their blending board (any TPI you own) and its accompanying accessories (dowels, brushes, etc.).

About the instructor:

Debbie Held's articles may be found in Spin Off magazine, PLY, and online with Schacht Spindle Company. She also writes the recurring Her Handspun Habit column for Long Thread Media/the Spin Off blog. Her first book, The Spinner's Blending Board Bible, was released in spring 2025.

Debbie teaches spinning classes around the world. Her courses on supported spindling and better e-spinning may be found on the School of SweetGeorgia website.

In her (limited) downtime, Debbie can be found surrounded by her ever-growing stash of spinning fiber and related treasures, spending time at her spinning wheels, and laughing at Stanley, her large Persian cat. They all live in the Atlanta area.
