How to Musselburgh
Class date: Saturday, April 25, 3:30 - 5:30 PM
Class fee: $40 + materials
Class spaces available: 4
The Musselburgh hat by Ysolda Teague has become one of our favorite “mostly mindless knitting” projects over the past few years. Stripe it, use a skein of souvenir sock yarn, throw in some of Jamie Lomax’s Doodles… the possibilities are endless! Join us for a one-session class to learn how to get it started, how to check your gauge and read the tables in the pattern, and then check out different ways to make it uniquely yours.

After this class, you’ll be able to:
- Select yarn, needle size, and hat size for your own Musselburgh
- Use a pinhole cast-on
Skills required:
- Knit, purl, basic increases, basic decreases
- Work in the round
- Read a standard knitting pattern
- Read your work (can you tell your knits from your purls?)
Materials required:
- 1 skein of yarn in the weight you intend to use to make the hat - fingering-weight, sportweight, or DK-weight are fine, and we encourage you to shop your stash!
- Needles for small-circumference knitting in a size appropriate to the yarn you're using; for fingering-weight yarn, use a needle 2 sizes larger than what you'd use to make socks
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle
- The Musselburgh pattern by Ysolda Teague (available as an in-store Ravelry purchase if you would like to buy it that way)
