The Bousta Beanie (Intro to Stranded Colorwork)
Class dates: November 23 & December 7, 3-5 PM (must be able to attend both sections)
Class fee: $50 + materials
You’ve seen the Doodle Cowls. You’re super-excited to make one. But… how do you do the thing? How do you make those patterns magically appear in your fabric? It’s a technique called stranded colorwork (or sometimes Fair Isle), and if you can knit and purl, you can totally do this, too!
We’ll be making the Bousta Beanie by Gudrun Johnston as our class project, which uses Shetland Fingering from Elemental Affects / Jorstad Creek Fibers.
After this class, you’ll be able to:
- More readily choose color combos that work together
- Knit with the “two-handed stranding” technique
- Follow a colorwork chart for working in the round
Skills required:
- Knit, purl, basic increases / decreases
- Work in the round
- Able to read basic knitting patterns
Required materials:
- Bousta Beanie / Tam pattern by Gudrun Johnston (must purchase prior to the beginning of class on your own or through the shop)
- 4 hanks of Shetland Fingering - 2x main color and 1x each of 2 contrast colors
- US 2.5 / 3.0mm and US 4 / 3.5mm needles in format/s indicated in pattern
- Stitch markers
Homework: Cast on for the beanie version of the pattern and work ribbing as indicated in pattern. Leave work on the needles and bring it to class.
